Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary, this vodka-based cocktail, has a great influence on today’s drinking standards, being recognized as one of the most popular cocktails available in the industry. With a disputed history, this cocktail has, besides its traditional recipe, many other variations, each very inspirational and delightful. Discover the universe of one of the world’s most famous cocktails: the Bloody Mary.

The original recipe of the Bloody Mary Cocktail includes vodka, tomato juice, celery salt, black pepper, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish and lemon or lime juice. But since this specific cocktail has gained more and more popularity, other variations soon appeared:

  • Replacing vodka with Irish whiskey – Bloody Molly
  • Replacing vodka with Arak, an Arabic distilled alcoholic drink – Bloody Pari
  • Replacing vodka with tequila – Bloody Maria
  • Replacing vodka with gin – Ruddy Mary

  • Replacing vodka with scotch – Bloody Scotsman
  • Replacing the tomato juice with barbecue sauce – Bloody LeRoi
  • Adding some beef bouillon to the tomato sauce – Bloody Bull
  • Replacing vodka with gin, the Worcestershire sauce with black vinegar, and the horseradish with wasabi sauce – Bloody Murder

  • The list of variation might as well continue, since the classical recipe is constantly under development and more and more ingredients are changed, replaced or complemented using some new ones. The Bloody Mary cocktail can be served frozen (blended with ice), flaming or frozen and flaming, depending on personal preferences.

    The necessary ingredients for the original recipe of Bloody Mary are:

  • 4.5 cl. vodka
  • 9.0 cl. tomato juice
  • 1.5 cl. lemon juice
  • dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • Tabasco
  • salt and pepper
  • celery stalk or dill pickle spear – for garnishment

  • Shake the vodka, the tomato juice and the lemon juice, then pour the mixture into a highball glass over crushed ice. Add dashes of Worcestershire sauce, some Tabasco and salt and pepper. Garnish with celery salt, lemon wedges or with olives.
