A miner from Martinez was served with a “Martinez Special” instead of Champagne and he apparently loved it so much, that when he arrived in San Francisco, actually thought a bartender to prepare it out of one part of dry wine, three parts of Gin, ice and an olive. Some other theories sustain that Martini’s name comes from the Vermouth used in it, imported in the America in the 19th century.

Due to its popularity gained over time, various types of martini were created, some replacing the classic olive or lemon twist with other garnishments, like herbs, anchovies, olives with blue cheese, pickles mushrooms or marinated capers.
